SLA soldiers trying to evict resettled Tamil families in Jaffna showing lame excuse

A good number of resettled Tamil families in Vasanthapuram, Maniam Thoaddam area in Jaffna has complained that Sri Lanka Army (SLA) soldiers are trying to evict them on the pretext that the area is yet to be cleared of landmines.

A group of Tamil National Alliance (TNA) members of Jaffna Municipal Council who visited the resettled Tamils on Tuesday revealed it to media.

The TNA council members said that two organizations resettled these Tamil families in these areas and they have been living in their houses there since 1984.
They said the Tamil families were displaced from there in 1995 in the face of SLA offensives and had fled their homes empty handed.

Now the government is making attempts again to evict them showing various reasons, the TNA members alleged.

They demanded that the government should give them the deeds of their lands so that no quarter can disturb them.

Meanwhile, sources in Jaffna said it is a lame excuse being showed by the SLA who are plotting to evict Tamil families to settle the Sinhala families there according to decision of the government.
